Between Auckland and the capital Wellington, near the New Zealand Alps and Lake Wakatipu, is Queenstown.
Wellington - The windy city
Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand and also the most southern capital city in the world.
It is a beautiful bay on the southern point of the north island but this heavenly spot does have a disadvantage: a constant breeze and strong storms and gusts are an all year long occurrence. |

Wellington is above all a lively city full of culture, art, numerous festivals, and remarkable architecture. The special city landmark is the modern Beehive-Building, which is the office of Parliament.
One should not miss the Old Government Building, one of the biggest wooden buildings in the world which boasts a unique view of Mt. Victoria.
The Botanic Garden offers a large variety of plants and a pretty view of the city. One can also take in the view with a comfortable cable car ride.
Queenstown - and Action!
Queenstown is ideally located on Lake Wakatipu on the south island. It is a nice place to come and contemplate. Queenstown is the self proclaimed action capital of the world! And the birthplace of bungee jumping!

At minute intervals adventure hungry people jump from the old bridge over the Karawau River. But there is more than just bungee jumping in Queenstown. Adrenaline addicts can find everything that their wild pulsating heart desires here.
At the top of Queenstown there is a wonderful view of the city from Bob’s Peak. A ride with the Skyline Gondola to the peak awaits you! One can then enjoy a dinner in the Skyline Restaurant, or one can chance an exciting 400 meter bungee jump.
