Is a certain language speaking capability needed?

Every job is different and so some jobs do require a greater knowledge of the language. We also try to accommodate people with a more modest command of the language.

 

How will the program start?

As soon as we have gathered alll of the important information from the participant about what the would like to do. They will probably have an interview with one of our local workers during which the field of work and best possible matches will be discussed.

The following areas are all possibilities while working in the hotel and catering business:

* House keeping

* Cleaning lady/man

* Waiter/Waitress in hotels, restaurants or cafés

* Administrative duties dealing with a hotel or hostel

* Kitchen aid                       

* Porter or luggage assistance in hotel

* General work in a café or bar

 

How long does the program last?

One could participate in a program for up to 6 months (see details in our catalogue).

 

Do I to have to be interviewed before I start working?

Yes, a general rule is that a telephone interview will suffice. When an interview is going to happen then the participant should make themselves familiar with the company before the interview takes place. If a face to face interview is granted then the participant should dress nicely and make a good impression. It is recommended that black shoes and pants be worn along with a white shirt or blouse.

 

Where would I live?

That depends on where you can find a suitable job. Many participants take it upon themselves to find their own housing. We can also look into finding housing if it is wanted. It is also sometimes possible to find lodging with your employer, for example, if you are working with a hotel.

 

Which age group normally takes part in this program?

The age group of normal participants is between 18 and 30.

 

When would one know where they will work?

A general rule is that one would know 1 to 2 weeks before the job would start.

 

What would I have to bring while working in Spain?

You should bring a personal items that you would want to have while in England. If there are specific clothes that are needed while working then those should also be brought.

 

Do I need a visa?

As an EU-citizen no visa is required. Citizens of other countries should contact the Spanish Embassy to get more information.

During the Job

How many hours would I have to work?

A normal number is about 35 hours per week. You are not allowed to work more than 48 hours per week.

 

Would I have a free day?

You would normally have 2 free days per week. We can not guarantee that you could take these days on the weekend though. The weekend is the busiest time for tourist related work so the free days may be during the week.

 

In which region would I work?

You will be working in the beautiful region of Andalusia in southern Spain.

 

Would I have to pay taxes?

Yes, if you work in Spain then you have to pay taxes. At the end of your stay you can apply to get the money back. Our colleagues will give you an application.

 

How much would I be payed?

Approx. 900 - 1200 euro per month.

 

Does one need social insurance during a stay in Spain?

Yes, one needs social insurance. Contact Sprachcaffe for more information.

 

Will there be someone there that speaks my mother tongue in case I do not understand what is happening?

Yes, in case of an emergency there will be someone that speaks your first language that will help you.

 

About how much money couuld I expect to need per month?

It depends completely on how your live your life. It is still a very smart idea to have an emergency fund set up. For a stay of 3 months or more, one should have about 1000-1200 GBP (1260-1500€).

 

Is health insurance covered by the agency?

No, there is no one that recieves health insurance from us. The company where you work will give you a work contract with health insurance. It is also wise to be insured for the beginning before you are covered by your company. This would provide protection from sudden sickness, theft, ect.

 

What happens if one does not like the job?

If one does not like the internship then one should notify one of our local workers in the area and talk them about the reasons that one would want to change.

Yes, as long as one has finished the entire program.
